Mambu cloud MIS for MFI

Mambu GmbH - Mambu Cloud based MIS for Microfinance institutions of all sizes

Overview:

Mambu emerged in 2009 as a research project based out of Portugal and focused on Africa to uncover the needs of microfinance organizations and how technology could be used to support their operations.

From observing branch staff, to speaking to CEOs and Investors, to following credit officers to the markets and interviewing their clients, the team dove deep into the world of microfinance. The goal was to find ways that technology can help spread microfinance, enable organizations to provide it easier, faster and cheaper and to reach more clients who need it. They quickly discovered the power of emerging services like mobile money and agent networks but realized that what MFIs needed first was an affordable modern Information Management System (MIS) which would serve as the platform for integrating these services. The participants felt the existing products were too complicated, too expensive, poorly supported or just simply painful to use. Why else are thousands of organizations worldwide still using risky pen and paper, spreadsheets or unreliable home-baked solutions to manage millions of dollars of portfolios of their clients? Or worse, spending hundreds of thousands on technology and expensive software and hardware stacks which will be a big weight on their organization.

There had to be something better, so Mambu was created. The year of 2010 was full of design and development out of Germany. Still working closely with MFIs and their advisors to determine what they really need in an MIS and funded by investors at Kizoo, they proudly launched into Beta by the new year with a few organizations around the world.

On a sunny day in May 2011, Mambu launched fully for the world of microfinance.

And then promptly went back to work to making it even better.
