Fern was incorporated in the United Kingdom in 1979 and specialises in the development, implementation and ongoing support of core banking systems for Microfinance Institutions, Development Banks, Credit Unions, SACCO’s and Commercial Banks.
With over 300 clients in more than 40 countries and offices in Australia, Ireland, Fiji, the Philippines, South Africa and the UK, Fern truly has a global footprint. Fern also works with a number of NGOs and Government Agencies.
Fern Software products have been reviewed and accredited by CGAP and are built in accordance with International Accounting Standards and Regulatory Compliance. Fern Software systems have satisfied examination by hundreds of internal and external auditors each year in many jurisdictions.

M2 is suitable to smaller sized entities, requiring less complex functionality, whilst Focus is suitable to the more complex and larger entity, and finally Abacus OneWorld is the flagship product, offering the most advanced functionality.
Abacus is designed for large and mid-sized innovative institutions and is Fern’s most advanced solution - the result of 20 years' experience and 10 years' development. It has been designed by accountants and developed by a core specialised team to the highest international standards.
